Gentry Leach

My name is Gentry Leach. I am a local artist and senior studying painting and ceramics at the University of Oklahoma. Throughout my work, I reflect on what it means to be a spiritual being having a human experience. I explore how surface, color, texture, and space can deepen the viewer’s relationship to the concepts I express within my personal creations. I often find myself pushing and pulling the formal elements to create a visual narrative of depth that invites the audience to take a closer look. My work is a meditation on ideas around social injustice, connection to nature, intimacy, vulnerability and self identity.

I have a passion for guiding children on the journey of finding a deeper sense of belonging to the world through the act of creating art. Childhood is the most crucial and influential period of personal development. It is my goal to inspire these imaginative young beings to see creativity not just as a hobby, but as a way of life; a form of self expression, and communication. Artistic expression has no borders and is inherently more powerful when shared with others, as creativity is at the very core of our existence on this planet.

Ultimately, I hope to guide these young artists as they utilize creativity as a space to create valuable connections within themselves, their local communities, and across the globe.
